The Jack Reacher Series Review

A riotous no nonsense ex-military cop now living life as a drifter with just his toothbrush tucked into his pocket, Reacher travels America and comes across all sorts of trouble. He arrives in a town only to come across someone who needs help, solves the mystery, and takes out the enemy with military precision. Learn how Reacher battles with anything and everything which is thrown at him all in the pursuit of what is right. Reacher is always the judge, jury and sometimes executioner but that depends on whether you deserve it or not. He is also not immune to the attractions of women however these are usually short-lived given Reacher cannot seem to stay in one place for too long and never goes back.

If you like a great thriller, you will love these books with plenty of twists in each novel. Personally, I have read/listen to all 27 which may seem like a lot, but I just can’t get enough of them. Using Amazons audible I was able to listen to most of these novels and I really enjoyed the performance of Jeff Harding, bringing the character of Reacher alive in my head. Between the great character of Jack Reacher and the excellent story lines there’s not a lot not to like here. Lee Child has created a great character which develops throughout every novel, we are even taken back to Reacher’s time in the military within some novels which just further develops the readers bond with Reacher.

A personal favourite of mine is Tripwire in which the suspense created throughout the novel really builds to a great crescendo making it impossible to put down.

Some may say it seems repetitive however I rather enjoy each story as it has a different plot with turns you don’t quite see coming.

If anyone has watched the Jack Reacher movie, please remove Tom cruise from your mind as Reacher is nothing like this. The clean cut 5’7 movie star doesn’t quite portray the 6’5 over 200-pound giant Lee Child created. Thankfully Amazon recently released a Jack Reacher series which is a much better portrayal of the Reacher.

I have never watched any of the TV portrayals of Jack Reacher, what do you prefer?

Overall is Jack Reacher worth reading? In short YES, I recommend reading the first novel and if you love it don’t worry you have 26 more to go and if it’s not your cup of tea well no need to read the rest. However, be warned if this is your type of novel you may well get addicted and never want to stop.
